A cultural and educational space for creative industries, such as movie, TV, web design, fashion and performing arts, the first prize winning proposal for the CASA FIRJAN da Indústria Criativa unifies the educational, cultural and corporate segments. Designed by Lompreta Nolte Arquitetos, the project, located in Rio de Janeiro, creates a hub for producers, consumers, and investors of these disciplines to provide interaction, networking and business opportunities. More images and architects’ description after the break.
Localized in the center of Botafogo, a high density residential and commercial neighborhood, the CASA FIRJAN will be inserted in the privileged site of the historical ‘Palacete Lineu de Paula Machado’. The site is characterized by its centenary trees, which form a green oasis of tranquility in the busy environment.
The project preserves the trees and the natural ambient of the site, and creates an internal square, which offers an open space between the two buildings. The activities in the building are visible to this square. Glass facades with a second layer of wooden louvers preserve its transparency, and create a dynamic façade for the vivid building interior.
CASA FIRJAN is organized in two building blocks, connected in the ground- and topfloor, in order to offer a continuous circuit in the building. This circuit forms the main space of interaction and learning, including gathering, exposition and performance. At the same time the circuit connects inside and outside spaces, offering a covered plaza and presenting new perspectives of the historical ‘Palacete’.
